Pastor's Message
"For
God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son."
As we look at our world today it is broken up into
more than a thousand pieces. We see terrorism in one form or another in
every nation upon the earth. We see racism, poverty, exploitation and
economic inequality. We see deep valleys of social, political, and
religious differences, we see mountains of hatred and prejudice, divided
classes, races and nations. Brothers fighting against brothers and
children fighting against parents; community strife; racial profiling;
and conflicts in, too, many nations. If we allowed what we see on the
surface to influence us we would be most miserable, pessimistic and
fearful.
But as Christians we must strive to look
through the eyes of faith—and move onward as Christian soldiers called
out of darkness and "endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the
bond of peace. There is one body, and one spirit, even as you are called
in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith one baptism, One God
and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in all of you
(Eph 4:3-6) Our being in
Christ makes us "All One Body". In essence when we accept Christ as
Savior in spite of racial, ethnic, class, or economic difference we have
spiritual oneness.
As humans we have a physical oneness
whether we accept or believe it we are related physically one to
another. We should not think of ourselves as separate individuals, but
as part of one gigantic super-humanity. St. Paul in Acts
17:26 says "And God hath made of one blood all nations of men for
to dwell on the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before
appointed, and the bounds of their habitation." This scripture
highlights our physical oneness. Cut any man, woman, boy or girl and
their blood runs red. All men and all women are made of the same basic
matter. Men are men and women are women. They all feel pain. They have
the same feelings of joy. What hurts you will hurt any body, even though
he or she is at is at the end of the earth. We have been created by One
God, and the people of the world will be better off when we truly
realize out physical oneness.
All humans have a social oneness. All of
us are interrelated and interdependent, no person can really exist or
live as though he or she were alone in the world. In the 17th Century
John Donne wrote, "No man is an Island, entirely of itself. Whenever one
man dies it diminished me because I am a part of mankind." Every person
is a piece of the continent a part of the main. Remember the good that
you and I do has worldwide repercussions because we are one. Encourage,
love, help a child today and prevent a thief, a mugger or criminal
tomorrow. We are socially connected when a cure for AIDS is discovered
people of all nations will eventually benefit, because "No man is an
island"; there is a degree of social oneness.
We have a moral oneness or obligation as
members of a family have a moral duty to each other; we humans have
moral duty to our fellow brothers and sisters. There is a moral
obligation shared by all to help the poor, the needy, and the
disenfranchised. We often try to dodge this responsibility. After Cain
slew his brother, Abel, he tried to escape his duty by asking God "Am I
my brother's keeper"? The answer was and still is emphatically YES. By
just being in the human family, we have a moral responsibility to help
anyone.
Still we have the world with a haunting
drum beat of war resounding from the Bush administration. Our world is
one of strife, selfishness, racism, and hatred. True Christians have the
answer. When people of all classes and races receive Christ, and are
submissive to God, they will learn to forgive each other to love each
other share and provide for one another. Yes, in Christ—we can sing with
truth the hymn "Onward Christian Soldier like a mighty army moves the
church of God; Brothers we are treading where the saints have trod; we
are divided "All one body we ~ one in hope, and doctrine, one in
charity." Christ commands that we be one in Love.
I want to extend my heart felt gratitude
to each member for faithfully supporting your church and God's kingdom
building with your time, treasurers, and talents. Let us continue in the
spirit of Oneness.
Let us move forward in prayer for World
Peace!
