The MARY CIRCLE is one of the five 'circles' of
Presbyterian Women in the Presbyterian Church of St. Albans (PCSA). Presbyterian Women, is the national women's organization of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) which is committed to nurturing faith, supporting the church's mission, working for justice and building community, and is organized at all levels of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
At PCSA, circles are formed from women who are members of the church, although not all female members join a circle. Each circle is named after an outstanding woman of the Bible, the others being, Priscilla, Esther, Debra and Naomi. The Mary Circle has focused on
1) Bible Study & Fellowship
2) Community Outreach -
Worldwide.
In recent years we have studied Great Kings of Israel; The Book of Esther; Women in the Bible and The Book of Ephesians.
Our outreach events have included donation of supplies to Hale House in Harlem, Christmas Gift-giving and Carol Singing for residents in nursing homes [for last 6 years]; donation of clothes to the Orphan Project of the Agape Mission Church in Nkayi, rural Zimbabwe; donation of a sewing machine to the Women's
Sewing Project of the Agape Mission Church and school supplies to the children of the Matendele Primary School in rural Zimbabwe.
Within the church community, we have contributed to the expansion and renovation of the church by specifically undertaking the cost of purchasing chairs in memory of past Mary Circle members, contributing to the purchase of blinds for the Sunday School Rooms and towards the cost of one stained glass window. We try
to live the PW purpose by practicing lessons learnt from our studies in our daily life and by acting on our concern for those who are less fortunate. |
